Just like other Asian women, I felt that my monolids were holding me back, and I wanted a double eyelid surgery to look better with makeup (such as eyeliner and eyeshadow) and to enhance my confidence. So, I finally did it! Check out my review and results of my new double eyelids below!
Deciding on a Double Eyelid Surgery
Whenever i use makeup on my eyes, the dramatic effect that I so desired was quickly lost. It’s not enough that i was constantly questioned by my friends and work colleagues about looking tired and sleepy all the time. When in reality, I wasn’t!
I did try various methods to retain my double eyelids, or to make them more prominent. The double eyelid tape (pictured below) may work for some people, but alas, for my eyes, they were only effective for less than a day.

Yeah, the double eyelid tape was impractical for me. I had to remember to remove them at the end of the day, and sometimes I forget about them entirely.
It appears I wasn’t the only one with monolid troubles, as the topic about double eyelid surgery (creation?) came up all of a sudden when I was talking to some friends! So, a friend of a mutual friend of ours (confusing, I know) had had their double eyelids surgically created, and the results were amazing!
When she suggested Dr Adrian, the plastic surgeon who did her eyelids, I quickly set an appointment with him to see what he would recommend for me.
Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery Review
Dr Adrian Ooi practices at Polaris Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and it was conveniently located in Mount Elizabeth hospital when I went there for my consultation. He was so friendly and explained exactly to me (with enormous patience because I asked so many questions!) how the procedure works and what it would mean for me as a patient.
All in all, Dr Ooi assured me that double eyelid surgery in Singapore has a high success rate, and that he had performed the procedure on many patients. He could also provide his patients with a professional recommendation for the best type of crease and ideal height that would compliment their facial features.
Like he did for me!

So, based on my existing eyelid and facial anatomy, he recommended the incisional double eyelid surgery method instead of the stitching, as it provided more definition and indentation that I wanted.
Also, he pulled up an AI-modelled version of me with the double eyelids using their Crysalix® AI technology, and once I saw how bigger and brighter my eyes looked… there was no going back!
Day One: Incisional double eyelid surgery

And the day is here! I got to Polaris, and was led to the day operating theatre conveniently located in Illumia Medical, which was right opposite Mount Elizabeth. Before the surgery, I was shown my eyelid crease design one last time for confirmation.
Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to get it over with.
When I went under (sedated) during the surgery, Dr Adrian worked his magic. The whole procedure felt like a short nap to me, and it was surprising to learn that the procedure took me 90 minutes!
The more excess fats or skin in the upper eyelid, the more complex the surgery, I later learned.

I woke up to heavy and swollen eyes, naturally. I was allowed to leave after being given a list of tips to take care of my newly-formed eyelids. The list included things like applying the antiseptic, no washing of the face for the first day, no makeup.. etc.
The kind nurse also took the time to explain to me how to care for my new eyelids with the ointment and pain medication.
But it was worth. It. 🙌🏽 Seeing my eyes in the mirror, it’s as though they’ve gotten larger, and the results looked almost natural! I blinked a few times to see if they would disappear. They didn’t!

Oh, side note. There are some side effects that you might have to consider after the surgery – as with all surgeries. The swelling and bruising didn’t look so bad in the picture, but in hindsight, I would say it was tolerable.
I had to keep an eye out for complications like bleeding or infection over the next few days until my next appointment. Needless to say, my double eyelids held up just fine!
Week One: Post-incisional double eyelid surgery
It was roughly a week after the surgery before I could have the stitches removed, and I had to take a few days off from work to tend to my sore eyes. I headed back to meet Dr Adrian so he could check on my healing progress.

This was taken after the stitches were removed. The swelling calmed down significantly after this, and after a while, I could finally see the results of the surgery – aka, my double eyelids!
FAQs about Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

This is an all-positive review because I’ve achieved the results I wanted, in a fuss-free environment, under the expert hands of an experienced plastic surgeon. All in a matter of time!
The best part is, I don’t have to resort to using double eyelid tapes anymore. Applying makeup was a breeze, and I could try all the smokey looks I wanted. The picture above is roughly 3 weeks after the surgery, and look, no swelling!
I have to note though that I had to wait for the redness around my eyes to disappear before I could wear eye makeup again, and that’s about 3 days.
Drastic difference, don’t you think?
Before surgery After surgery!
I could now also recommend my plastic surgeon to my friends who also want to get double eyelids. If you are looking for one, always, always, seek a reputable surgeon who knows what would fit your face best!
